Glycol Hydronic Systems
Glycol can protect vulnerable hydronic systems from freezing, but concentration, fluid condition, pressure, pump selection, expansion capacity, and materials compatibility must be managed.
More is not automatically better
Excess concentration can reduce heat transfer and increase pumping resistance. The target should be based on the actual protection requirement and product data.
Fluid condition changes over time
Testing may include freeze protection, pH or inhibitor condition using the fluid manufacturer’s method, visual contamination, and signs of make-up water dilution.
Service impacts
Glycol affects expansion-tank sizing, pump performance, air removal, heat transfer, and leak behaviour. System components should be selected and maintained accordingly.
What to send before the visit
- Clear photo of the rating plate and model number
- Photo or exact wording of any error code
- Whether the issue affects space heating, hot water, or both
- When the problem started and whether a reset temporarily restores operation
- Your city and preferred service timing
